Credentials for Señora Wilson:
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in Secondary Education with emphases in Spanish and History. I have lived in Guatemala and visited Mexico and Ecuador for extended periods of time. I appreciate the Latino culture and enjoy sharing the language and culture
with others.
Course Content:
We will be using the Holt edition of ¡Expresate! For each section we will be listening, speaking, writing, reading and doing many activities to learn Spanish. We will also learn about the latino culture and about the Spanish-speaking countries around the world. We will be speaking as much Spanish as we possibly can in the classroom.
Daily practice will greatly increase your ability to learn a new language. To enhance your Spanish retention, I am requiring 15 minutes of daily conversation and vocabulary practice using www.quizlet.com. You will need to join the North Star Spanish 1 group. You may also use www.spanishdict.com once per week for this practice if you would like. It will be helpful for you to vocalize and speak to the computer or to another person as you do this daily practice. A conversational practice sheet will be due the first class period of each week with a brief description of what you did each day.
Grades:
Your grade will be determined by:
Attendance and Tardies:
Absences should be kept to a bare minimum. A student is tardy if a student is not in the classroom in his or her seat when the final bell rings. Because we want to take advantage of all of our class time, class will begin immediately after the bell rings.
Late Work/Make-up Work:
I expect assignments to be turned in on time. If a student is here the day that an assignment is assigned, but gone the day that it is due, the work is due the day you return to class. Late work may be accepted on a case by case basis only if discussed with me. No late work will be accepted within the last week of the quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to find out the missing work and how it can be made up. Students will be allowed the same number of days equal to the number of excused absent days to make up assignments for full credit.
Citizenship:
A student’s citizenship grade will be influenced by their classroom behavior. Citizenship grades are as follows:
Students will begin the year with 90% (H) and will lose and gain points according to their behavior.
